What we found

Supports. The Justice Department's official August 4, 2026 announcement states it is monitoring polling sites in Detroit, Hamtramck, Lansing, and East Lansing for the state's primary election.[1]

Supports. WCMU Public Media reports federal monitors were stationed in Detroit, Lansing, East Lansing, and Hamtramck on the August 4 primary day, and officials reported they were unobtrusive.[2]

Supports. WWMT reports DOJ Civil Rights Division and U.S. Attorney's Office staff monitored polling locations in Detroit, Hamtramck, Lansing and East Lansing on Primary Election Day, August 4, 2026.[3]

Supports. A later Spectrum News report says that during the August primary the DOJ deployed monitors to Detroit, East Lansing, Hamtramck and Lansing, consistent with the claim.[4]

Context. Earlier CBS Detroit reporting (July 8) described DOJ intent to monitor three cities (East Lansing, Detroit, Lansing) before the primary; Hamtramck was added in the final deployment, which does not contradict the claim.[5]
