Sources give competing figures for the water in Lake Las Vegas at creation: most say about three billion gallons were diverted, the LA Times says the lake held 3.4 billion gallons, and Wikipedia's 10,000 acre-feet works out to roughly 3.26 billion gallons. The claimed 3.3 billion falls inside this 3.0–3.4 billion range, but no source states 3.3 directly.

Minor detail. The sources confirm the claim; only a minor detail differs, such as a name's spelling, a title's wording or a rounding.

What was said

… Last year, we put a billion gallons of treated drinking water into the fake lake behind me. I drove all the way out here to Lake Las Vegas to share the details of my investigation. Lake Las Vegas is a master planned community, technically part of Henderson. They built this by creating a 3.3 billion gallon lake and building a few thousand homes around it. The problem is that because of evaporation between the lake and the golf courses, the city of Henderson has to put back about a billion gallons of water per year. …

What we found

Contradicts. Several sources state that three billion gallons were diverted to fill the lake, which is below the claimed 3.3 billion.[1][2][3][4]

Supports. Wikipedia states the dam impounds 10,000 acre-feet of water, which converts to about 3.26 billion gallons, close to the claimed 3.3 billion.[5]

Supports. The LA Times describes the lake as shimmering with 3.4 billion gallons, near the claimed figure.[6]

Context. The sources give a range of roughly 3.0 to 3.4 billion gallons depending on whether the figure is the initial diversion, the impoundment, or the lake's holding at a later date. The claimed figure lies within that range, so the verdict depends on which estimate is taken as authoritative.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Context. Most of the figures come from low-credibility or unrated sites, and none is an authoritative record of the lake's capacity at creation.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
