Multiple reports from October 19–20, 2026 say newly unsealed federal records, first reported by The New York Times, suggest Simpson may have had help covering up the murders, including disposal of the murder weapon. The claim's hedged wording ('suggest', 'may have') matches these reports, though the brother's account is unproven and he later tried to retract it.

This claim is in the show notes, the publisher's own words. It counts against the post, once.

What we found

Supports. CBS News reports that newly unsealed court documents obtained by the New York Times describe an informant, Joey Ippolito, who had become privy to Simpson's 'disposal of the murder weapon.'[1]

Supports. ABC13 reports that the newly unsealed records describe Ippolito providing 'very helpful' information about the murder weapon, which was never found.[2]

Supports. NewsNation reports that unsealed documents suggest Simpson may have had help from a drug trafficker in covering up the murders, and that the records show Ippolito gave authorities information about the location of the weapon and efforts to dispose of it.[3]

Context. The document itself does not reveal what Ippolito told authorities about the weapon or its alleged disposal, and the brother's account is described as unproven; he later sought payment and tried to retract it.[2][4]

Context. Ground News and City News Service summarize the same NYT-based reporting, which says prosecutors did not use the informant's information before the 1995 trial ended.[5][6]
