Lakeforest (Lake Forest) Mall in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, Maryland, closed to the public on March 31, 2023, after liquidation sales began in January 2023, which is about 3.5 years before the stated date of 2026-10-30, not 12 years earlier. The extracted claim matches the passage's wording, so no extraction departure is involved; the error is in the timing.

… This happened in Montgomery County, where I lived for 12 years in in in the state of Maryland. The third worlding of Montgomery County—it is so foul. It's just awful. It is. It really is. It's remarkable. There's a hole where a mall used to be called Lake Forest Mall that went out of business 12 years ago. That sat there for 10 years, covered with gang graffiti. Now it's just a hole in the ground, and they're selling fruit and fruit juice out of the back of pickup trucks, like in Tijuana, right near where my kids went to elementary. …

Contradicts. Multiple sources state the mall closed on March 31, 2023, which is roughly three and a half years ago, not 12 years ago.[1][2][3][4]
Contradicts. Wikipedia reports that liquidation sales began January 9, 2023, and that the store closed on March 18, 2023, with the full mall closing March 31, 2023, further undermining a closure around 2014.[2]
Context. The sources describe the mall as having operated for about 45 years (opened September 12, 1978) and as having been in decline over the last decade, but none supports a closure around 2014.[2][3][4]
Context. The sources identify the mall as Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, and the spelling 'Lake Forest' refers to the same property. The sources do not include a fact-checker rating of this specific claim.[1][2]
