The claim is a faithful paraphrase of the post's assertion that Wiesenthal's claim to have located Eichmann is nonsense. Sources conflict: Britannica and the NYT's report on Segev's biography say Wiesenthal's information led to Eichmann's identification and capture, while Isser Harel, the Mossad head who ran the operation, says Wiesenthal had nothing to do with it.

What was said

… I'm not talking about what he alleged about events in World War II, although that obviously wasn't credible either. But he made a whole career out of making up stories about being involved in capturing these Third Reich figures, and he claimed that he located Eichmann, that's complete nonsense. I he, Wiesenthal, was a was a nobody who built a career on bullshit and presenting himself as. As some sort of Frederick Force like novel character, you know, this was completely confabulated and like I said too. …

What we found

Contradicts. Britannica states that Eichmann's final identification was based in part on information Wiesenthal supplied, though he did not accompany the Israeli agents to Argentina.[4]

Contradicts. The NYT reports that a book says Wiesenthal told the Mossad in 1953 that Eichmann was hiding in Argentina, leading ultimately to his capture, and that his role has been a matter of dispute.[3]

Supports. Isser Harel, the former Mossad head responsible for the capture, said unequivocally that Wiesenthal had 'nothing to do with Eichmann neither with the capture, location or any information.'[5][6][7]

Context. Wikipedia says Wiesenthal 'may have played a small role' in locating Eichmann, and the Congressional Record and Reuters credit him with efforts toward Eichmann's capture and conviction.[1][2][8]
