The claim that there are 601.4 million jobs in Texas is off by roughly a factor of 40. Primary sources from the Texas Workforce Commission and BLS put Texas nonfarm employment at about 14.4 to 14.5 million in mid-2026, and the claim was checked as of its 2026-09-15 posting date, when the figure was about 14.46 million.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

… I'm not bothering you. All these people are trying to prevent Texas from creating energy so China can dominate the electric world, and we've got about, we've got between 601.4 million jobs in Texas, and you were, in one way or another, maybe you just cater to them, maybe you sell them equipment, and you're watching all this happening and going, you know, I don't think Paxton's, yeah, well, maybe I don't want to marry my daughter, whatever, but I gotta …

What we found

Contradicts. The Governor's office release of October 20, 2026, citing Texas Workforce Commission data, reports Texas nonfarm jobs totaled 14,461,300 in September 2026.[1]

Contradicts. The Texas Workforce Commission's July 17, 2026 release reports Texas added jobs to reach a total of 14,469,600 positions in June 2026.[2]

Contradicts. The BLS Texas Economy at a Glance series shows Total Nonfarm employment between 14,401.4 and 14,472.4 thousand from April to September 2026, which is about 14.4 to 14.5 million jobs, not 601.4 million.[3]

Context. Even the total civilian labor force (about 15.9 million) and the employed count (about 15.2 million) are far below 601.4 million, so no common job measure in these sources approaches the claimed figure.[1][2][3]
