As of 2026-09-15, sources show Houthi-linked attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure, including the Jazan refinery and shipping near Yanbu, but they attribute the Abqaiq attack to Iran-backed Iraqi militias rather than the Houthis.

What was said

… when you see the Saudi Arabian royal family on the ropes right now, as Ansarallah, the Houthis, are making massive gains in Yemen, taking over all of western Yemen, and not just moving east as they head to Aden and some of these other cities, and not just striking the refineries in Yamboo, western Saudi Arabia, Abqiaq, eastern Saudi Arabia, but the very foundation of the Saudi monarchy, the Jordanian monarchy. What we found

Contradicts. The same IEA report attributes the attack on Saudi Arabia's Abqaiq oil processing site to Iran-backed militias in Iraq using drones, not to the Houthis, contradicting the claim that the Houthis struck Abqiaq as of September 15.[1]

Supports. The IEA report (Reuters, Sept 11) says groups linked to the Houthis targeted Saudi Arabia's Jazan refinery and shipping near Yanbu, so Houthi-linked strikes on Saudi refinery and Red Sea oil facilities were occurring before the post date.[1]

Supports. AP (Sept 8) reports Houthi attacks igniting fires at Saudi oil facilities and utilities in southern cities, establishing an active Houthi campaign against Saudi energy infrastructure.[2]

Context. Houthi claims of strikes on Abqaiq and Yanbu facilities appear in sources dated October and later, after the claim's date, and Saudi authorities did not confirm them.[3][4][5][6]

Context. Sources describe Yanbu as hosting Aramco oil export facilities and the East-West pipeline terminus, and the claim's word 'refineries' for Yanbu is not stated in the September sources.[1][7]
