Did President Trump Just Say He Wanted Los Angeles and San Diego Bombed?
Trump did say "Let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego" at a Nebraska rally, so the words are accurately attributed. However, FactCheck.org, AP and the White House all reject the reading that he wanted the cities bombed, and Trump's own Truth Social post says he was comparing gas prices to a bombing.
This claim is in the show notes, the publisher's own words. It counts against the post, once.
What we found
Contradicts. AP reports that the White House said Trump "did not call for attacks on US cities" and was instead explaining how he wants to prevent Iran from having that capability.[1]
Contradicts. FactCheck.org says that, given the full context, a more plausible reading is that the war would prevent Iran from threatening U.S. cities and that higher gas prices are a small sacrifice; it rejects the reading that Trump was calling for attacks.[2]
Contradicts. Trump's own Truth Social post said he was comparing a temporary gas price increase with the bombing of major cities, and that he loves both cities.[3][6][7]
Supports. Multiple outlets (Reuters, Snopes, PolitiFact, FactCheck.org, The Hill) quote Trump saying "Let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego" at the October 5 Nebraska rally.[2][3][4][5][6]
Context. Trump later repeated similar remarks at a Texas rally, saying "Let them hit San Diego. Let them hit Los Angeles," which critics cited as evidence of his intent.[8]
