Chlorella and spirulina are supported as microalgae, but asafoetida is not: multiple primary sources describe it as a gum-resin from Ferula plants (carrot family), not an alga. The claim's extraction faithfully reflects the passage's 'all three happen to be from microalgae', and the spirulina/cyanobacteria nuance in source [10] is a minor caveat.
What we found
Contradicts. Asafoetida is an oleo-gum-resin obtained from the stems or roots of Ferula plants in the Umbelliferae/Apiaceae family, not a microalga.[1][2][4][5][6][7]
Supports. Chlorella is described as a genus of green microalgae, and spirulina (Arthrospira) as a blue-green microalga in a primary review.[3][8]
Context. A German nutrition review notes that spirulina (Arthrospira) consists of cyanobacteria, so it is not strictly correct to classify it as a microalga, though it is commonly grouped with them.[9]
