Trump did say in an October 2026 Newsmax interview that he 'probably' would not go after the Clintons, but in the same remarks he said he could still pursue them criminally or damage their reputations, and he tied that possibility to a third impeachment. The unconditional claim that he would not pursue action is therefore only partly supported.

The host relays this claim without endorsing it. It counts as passed on, not against the post.

What was said

… Actually, finally had a good interview, and then Elon Musk made, uh, made that fake car to a barrel roll, and that kind of buried the Trump interview. But, um, no, he sat there and he said that he wasn't going to go after the Clintons. He said he wasn't going to go after i saw that clip. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. And so that's Trump basically saying, no, people in DC are above the law. That was Trump announcing. He's saying, no criminals are above the law. …

What we found

Contradicts. In the same interview Trump said he could still go after Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and Obama criminally or destroy their reputations, and that he could 'do big numbers if I wanted to,' which contradicts a flat statement that he would not pursue them.[1][2][3]

Contradicts. Trump said another impeachment effort could change his position, so his non-pursuit was conditional rather than a firm commitment.[1][4]

Supports. In a October 15, 2026 Newsmax interview, Trump said of pursuing the Clintons and Obama, "I guess not, probably not," and said he had turned down going after Hillary Clinton.[1][2]

Context. In November 2016, as president-elect, Trump said he would not pursue a new Clinton email investigation but did not rule it out. These statements are about a different period and are not the October 2026 remarks the post refers to.[5][6][7]
