Multiple reliable outlets (AP, Reuters, NYT, The Hill) report that the $2.8 billion package includes 40,000 bombs, 20,000 MK-84 and 20,000 BLU-117, which are the 2,000-pound (about one-ton) bombs the claim describes. The sources describe the package as planned or not yet finalized (AP, Reuters, ABC) and NYT says it was approved, and Rep.

What we found

Supports. AP and Reuters both report the $2.8 billion package includes 20,000 MK-84 and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, totaling 40,000 bombs of 2,000 pounds each.[1][2]

Supports. The New York Times and The Hill describe the sale as including 40,000 one-ton bombs, matching the claim's wording.[3][4]

Context. AP, Reuters and ABC describe the package as not yet final and informally notified to Congress, while NYT reports it as approved by a U.S. official; the claim says only that the sale includes the bombs, so the status dispute does not change the verdict.[1][2][4][5]

Context. Rep. Gregory Meeks, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, placed a hold on the sale on September 16, 2026, so it is not cleared to proceed.[3]

Context. Some sources add that the package also includes 20,000 I-2000 penetrator warheads or other explosives, which does not contradict the claim that it includes 40,000 one-ton bombs.[6][7]
