As of 2026-08-28, the low-thirties figure matches individual polls: Reuters/Ipsos had Trump at 33% (published Aug 17), and the UMass poll later put him at 32%. Polling averages from the same period, including Ballotpedia at 41% and the RealClearPolitics, NYT and Silver Bulletin averages around 38-40%, put his rating higher, so the claim holds only on the single-poll measure.

What was said

… It is, and it's even worse than that, because what Trump wants to do is spend millions and millions of dollars talking about himself. What we found

Contradicts. Polling averages at the end of August put Trump's approval at about 38-41%, above the low thirties, with Ballotpedia citing 41% and a lowest average of 39% on Aug 25.[3][4]

Supports. Reuters/Ipsos reported Trump's approval at 33% in a poll that concluded Aug 17, 2026, the lowest of his presidency.[1][5]

Supports. Reuters/Ipsos again reported 33% approval in a poll released Aug 31, and the UMass Poll found 32% approval in an Aug 21-26 survey.[2][4]

Context. Trump's rating dropped further in the averages by late October (Silver Bulletin 37.3%), but that is after the claim date and does not affect the verdict for 2026-08-28.[6][7]
