Multiple sources, including a Reuters report on Todd Johnson's Center for the Study of Global Christianity data (127,000 US missionaries in 2010 vs. Brazil's 34,000) and a later Lausanne/World Christian Database figure (135,000 US senders, next largest Brazil at 40,000), show the United States sends more missionaries abroad than any other country.

Our two reads of who says this, and how, disagree, so it counts as the post's own claim.

… You mentioned that capitalism has given America the wealth to be generous, and I think it's worth reminding people how unusual America is in that regard, that we are a nation of givers in our own communities and around the world. Basically, there are almost entire countries that are reliant on the charitable giving of Americans, that America is the country that produces missionary, far more missionaries than any other country, come out of America to go around the world. And I think that's directly linked to our free market system, even our way of our, our very, uh, energetic church environment, the way that there is so many different, uh, competing Protestant churches, Catholic churches, that they're, we're very on the ball …

What we found

Supports. Reuters (2012) reports the United States sends more Christian missionaries abroad than any other country, citing 127,000 US missionaries versus 34,000 from Brazil in 2010.[1]

Supports. The Lausanne Report (2024) reports the US is the top sender of missionaries with 135,000 going out, with Brazil second at 40,000 based on World Christian Database 2020 figures.[2][3]

Supports. Philanthropy Roundtable and Reformation21 describe the US as still dispatching more missionaries than any other nation, corroborating the ranking.[4][5]

Context. Some older sources (1970s-era WCE data cited by Missio Nexus, and a 2013 blog on per-capita rankings) show the US ranks lower when measured proportionally, but these use a different measure than total missionaries sent, so the claim's absolute-count framing is not contradicted.[6][7]
