The Briefing with Jen PsakiOct 23, 2026
The claim matches the extraction faithfully, and several outlets report Colom's count as 60 or more town halls, with one saying at least 75 as of October 8. However, these figures trace back to Colom's own statements and no independent tally verifies them, and the sources do not address the 'over the last year' timeframe.

What was said
… I know there were people waiting in line. Uh How was it? It was amazing, and it's because the people of Mississippi have built something truly special. Supports. CNN Politics (published 2026-10-22) reports Colom conducted 60 town halls across the state, and MS NOW (2026-10-31) and The Prospect (2026-11-02) repeat his 'over 60' account.[1][2][3]
Supports. The Contrarian (published 2026-10-08) quotes Colom saying he has probably done at least 75 town halls, which is consistent with having done over 60.[4]
Context. The Sun Herald (published 2026-10-19) quotes Colom citing 'more than 50' town halls, a lower figure from earlier in the campaign that is not a contradiction of 'over 60' given the count was rising over time.[5]
Context. Every figure traces back to Colom's own statements, and no independent record such as event listings or organizer tallies verifies the count; the 'over the last year' timeframe is not addressed by any source.[1][2][3][4][6]
