Sources show majority support for the principle of barring noncitizens from voting (Rasmussen 2025: 75% say it is important to prevent illegal immigrant voting), but none independently finds 90% support for legislation. A CBS News-YouGov poll cited by CNN found only 28% support and 31% opposition for the SAVE Act itself, and Rasmussen found 64% favor the SAVE Act.

What was said

… If only there was some kind of, like, act that could save America. If only, if only, you know, everyone's asking, what do we do in California? Boy, you know, shucks, it's like a great idea. Maybe, like, Republicans could pass some election security. Maybe we could do a bill that would, um, stop illegal aliens from voting, like 90% of the country wants us to do. Um, like, we passed out of the House twice already, and it has gotten held up in the Senate. And, um, you know, whenever the Senate can't get bills passed that 90% of the country agrees with, you know, there are there are consequences, and you've seen a lot …

What we found

Contradicts. A CBS News-YouGov poll, as reported by CNN in March 2026, found only 28% support and 31% opposition for the SAVE Act itself, far below the claimed 90%.[3]

Supports. Rasmussen Reports (April 2025) found 75% of likely voters say it is important to prevent illegal immigrants from voting, and 64% favor SAVE Act-style proof-of-citizenship legislation.[4]

Supports. Senator Katie Britt's press release says surveys show 85 to 90 percent of Americans support allowing only U.S. citizens to vote, but this is an advocacy statement and not an independent poll record.[1]

Context. Other polls show 80% support for voter ID and 66% for proof of citizenship as separate concepts, so the 90% figure depends on which measure is used.[2][3]
