The claim that Republicans enacted the largest cut of inefficient, wasteful spending in history is not supported by the sources.

What was said

We are providing more jobs and opportunity for more people. And the facts show it, the records show it. We gave the largest tax cut in US History. We also did the largest spending cut of inefficient, wasteful government spending in history. We have economic indicators across the board. More people are doing better, higher wages. In my state of Louisiana, just with the big beautiful bill, the working families tax cut, the average Louisianan has a tax cut of $2,915. …

What we found

Contradicts. Cato's historical analysis states that federal spending fell from $92.7 billion in 1945 to $55.2 billion in 1946, a cut far larger than the recent cut it examines, so the 'largest annual spending cut' framing is contradicted by the record.[5]

Context. FactCheck.org's analysis of a prior budget cut notes it was only a little more than 1 percent of total federal spending, which shows that the size of 'biggest cut' claims depends heavily on the measure used.[1]

Context. Treasury fiscal data reports FY 2025 federal spending of $7.01 trillion, providing the scale against which any spending cut should be measured, but it does not identify any Republican-enacted cut as historically largest.[2]

Context. The White House primary statement describes 'historic action' to eliminate wasteful spending, but the sources do not provide an independent quantified record establishing it as the largest cut in history.[3]

Context. The sole source asserting the claim is the speaker's own remark in the House Speaker interview, which cannot corroborate the claim and is not independent evidence.[4]
