Sources support Chinese Americans having among the highest median incomes on one measure but contradict a 'highest of any group' ranking on household income. Pew shows Chinese-headed households at $102,800 versus $105,600 for Asian-headed households overall, while Pew's personal earnings figure ($57,200 vs $52,400 for Asians overall) favors the claim. No source ranks all U.S.

What was said

… Opportunity, an opportunity, and it should be equal across all those people, but we're constantly told that it's not. But yet, when you look at the success of the people in this country, the success of the people in this country is very diverse. Okay, Chinese Americans make the most fucking money. You know who makes the most money right after them? Fucking Indian Americans. Okay, and we go through, the white people are way down here at the bottom, dude. You know what I mean? They're actually a poverty class that is fucking scapegoated for all the fucking problems. …

What we found

Contradicts. Pew Research reports the median annual household income of Chinese-headed households was $102,800 in 2023, below the $105,600 median for Asian-headed households overall, so Chinese Americans are not the highest on household income among these groups.[2]

Supports. Pew Research reports Chinese Americans' median annual personal earnings were $57,200 in 2023, higher than the $52,400 for Asians overall, and $84,000 vs $75,000 among full-time, year-round workers.[2]

Supports. The Census Bureau's ACS data show Asian households with a median income of $116,503 (2020–2024), far above Black households at $55,157, though it does not rank all groups or break out Chinese Americans.[1]

Context. An ACS 2017 figure reported by the American Immigration Council shows Chinese American households at $78,640 versus $60,000 nationally, describing them as among the highest median incomes, but this is dated and does not rank all groups.[3]

Context. The claim's statement that Indian Americans are second is not addressed by the sources. The World Population Review table lists a 'Indian' category at $65,956 nationally, but its measure and comparability to Asian subgroups are unclear.[4]
