The claim's timing is contradicted: the major Medicaid cuts from the 2025 reconciliation law are scheduled for 2027, mainly January 1, 2027, not toward the end of 2026. The only 2026 cut in the sources is the October 1, 2026 removal of coverage for certain legal immigrants, which took effect before the "end of the year" the post described.

What we found

Contradicts. Politico reports that most GOP-enacted cuts to Medicaid won't happen until 2027, and Vox says the Medicaid work requirements and six-month eligibility checks will all take effect in 2027.[2][3]

Contradicts. KJZz and Schwabe state that the new Medicaid work requirements and significant cuts take effect on January 1, 2027, and ABC15 says the Arizona AHCCCS provisions start Jan. 1.[4][5][6]

Context. The only Medicaid cut that took effect in 2026 was the October 1 removal of coverage for certain refugees, asylees and other legal immigrants, per AP and Schwabe; it is earlier than the claimed end-of-year timing and is not the major cut the post described.[1][5][7]

Context. AP says many of the sweeping changes are set to take effect early next year, which is consistent with the 2027 schedule in other sources.[1]
