The sources do not tabulate the independence parties that ran in Alberta's last provincial election, so the count of four can be neither confirmed nor refuted directly. The indirect evidence leans against four: a 2026 report counts three registered pro-independence parties, though that is a current snapshot, and the Studentvote mock-election table lists only one independence party.

What was said

… I'm sure that there are some who are, who are committed to, to trying to, to continue to pursue independence, but they can't do that under the umbrella of the United Conservative Party. In the last election, I think there were four different independence parties, and, and so if, if they feel like that's the, the avenue, then that's the pathway to go. We're, we're not an independence party. We're not going to be an independence party, and if you want to be in a position where you're speaking on behalf of our party, you've got to honor what Albertans told us. …

What we found

Contradicts. A October 2026 report on Alberta separatists says the movement is fractured across three registered independence-advocating parties: the Republican Party of Alberta, the Independence Party of Alberta, and the Wildrose Independence Party of Alberta. This describes the current landscape, not the last election, but it points away from four.[2]

Context. The Studentvote provincial summary lists one party with independence in its name (Alberta Independence Party) alongside a generic INDEPENDENT category. It is a student mock election, not the official record, so it is weak evidence about the actual last election.[3]

Context. The Elections Alberta results excerpt shows only a single riding (Calgary-Shaw) and lists IND for independent candidates with no separatist party. It is a partial snippet and does not give a province-wide count of independence parties.[4]

Context. Coverage of the October 2026 referendum (AP, CBC) reports results on the separation question but does not address how many independence parties ran in the last provincial election. The speaker's own hedged phrasing ('I think there were four') is not evidence.[1][5]
