California is one of the most Democratic states in the nation. But former Fox News host and British American Steve Hilton is mounting a long-shot bid to be the state’s next Republican governor. He’s banking on voters’ disaffection with the state’s notoriously high cost of living to beat Democrat Xavier Becerra in November. …
Multiple tier1 sources (AP, BBC) report that Steve Hilton hosted a Fox News show for six years (2017 to about 2023), and sources published after the claimed posting date (Fox News radio, Washington Examiner) continue to describe him as a former Fox News host. The claim matches the passage's own description and the sources confirm the core assertion.
This claim is in the show notes, the publisher's own words. It counts against the post, once.
What we found
Supports. AP reports Hilton 'hosted a Fox News show for six years,' and BBC states he began a six-year stint hosting on Fox News in 2017.[1][2]
Supports. Washington Examiner (published 2026-08-31) describes him as 'The former Fox News host' and notes he 'eventually became a Fox News host.'[3]
Context. Sources consistently describe Hilton as a Republican gubernatorial candidate and Trump-endorsed, with the Fox News show having ended before his candidacy; the claim's 'former' status is consistent with this.[4][5][6]
Context. The extracted claim uses 'Steve' while the AP headline uses 'Steven'; this is a name-form variant referring to the same person.[1]
