Woke is dead. Long live Woke! Woke 2.0 is here, but is it worse than original flavor? Maybe. There's a new lab leak out of Russia. A lab worker may have been exposed to the pneumonic plague. We'll tell you what that means. South and Central America have not elected a left-wing president since the defunding of USAID, but we're sure it's just a coincidence. We check in on the Brazil elections to see if that trend will hold. …
As of 2026-10-05, the claim that a lab worker 'may have been exposed' to pneumonic plague was a live suspicion: media reports and a regional governor raised it, and WHO described plague as suspected following occupational lab exposure.
A detail. The sources confirm the gist; the verdict faults a detail such as a date, number or wording.
This claim is in the show notes, the publisher's own words. It counts against the post, once.
This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.
What we found
Contradicts. Russian authorities said the worker's tests were negative for the pathogens she worked with, that no biosecurity incident occurred, and that no plague case had been registered in Irkutsk, undercutting the suspected exposure.[1][3][4]
Supports. WHO's October 10 disease outbreak notice says plague was suspected as the cause of death 'following occupational exposure in laboratory settings,' and early reports described an accidental lab exposure to pneumonic plague.[2][3]
Supports. Early coverage dated October 5 reported that the worker may have been exposed to plague at the lab and that quarantine and medical observation of about 200 people followed.[5][6][7]
Context. WHO said the cause of the worker's pneumonia remained unknown, and the ECDC said there was no evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission, so the exposure question stayed unresolved.[1][8]
