The roughly 70,000 figure is supported: Spanish officials put it at 72,000 and other outlets at 60,000 to over 70,000. However, the sources date the mass crossing to July 30–31, 2026, not August 10, so the claim's date is contradicted.

A played clip makes this claim. Listeners heard it, so it counts against the post.

What we found

Contradicts. The Commons Library and the Irish Times date the mass crossing to 30 July and 30–31 July 2026, not August 10.[2][3]

Contradicts. Reuters and NPR place the rush at July 29–30 and the week of July 27, respectively, so no source dates the mass crossing to August 10.[1][4]

Supports. Spanish Interior Minister Grande-Marlaska said 72,000 migrants entered Ceuta and 70,000 had returned, and Reuters and Fortune describe more than 70,000 or approximately 70,000 crossing.[1][5][6][7]

Supports. The Commons Library and Waging Nonviolence both describe over 70,000 migrants crossing into Ceuta at the end of July 2026, so the magnitude is corroborated across sources.[2][8]

Context. The claim says 'attempted to cross' while most sources say the migrants crossed and most later returned; the wording difference is minor relative to the date error.[5][8]
