The claim is false: under USMCA, US milk enters Canada tariff-free up to a large quota (about 50,000+ metric tons a year), so nothing is charged after two bottles. Over-quota rates are roughly 241-298% per the sources, not 409%, and they apply only above the quota, which US exports don't reach.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What was said

… It says very badly. They always have, not anymore. It's a whole different ball game now. Trump is in town. They ripped Canada canada ripped us off with tariffs. They would charge us tariffs; they would never talk about it. You know, like on milk, they charge you nothing for the first two bottles, so they put it down, no tariff. After that, they charge you 409%. Anything past two bottles, they charge you. They are brutal, and we don't take that crap anymore. Their car companies are all moving into America. They're all coming in, otherwise they have to pay massive tariffs. …

What we found

Contradicts. FactCheck.org found Trump's repeated claim of a 250-270% Canadian dairy tariff misleading: triple-digit rates exist on the books but apply only above tariff-rate quotas, and US dairy has never faced triple-digit tariffs.[1]

Contradicts. CNN's fact check noted that Canada's high dairy tariffs kick in only after the US hits a tariff-free quota, and the US is not even at half the zero-tariff maximum for milk, so the high tariffs are not actually paid.[4]

Contradicts. The Wisconsin extension analysis puts the old over-quota tariffs at roughly 241% to 298% and says they are not being paid, and U.S. dairy within Canada's tariff-free quotas has paid no tariff.[3]

Contradicts. Daniel Dale's fact check rated the 'two bottles' and 409% framing as false, noting that under the USMCA the first 50,000+ metric tons per year of US milk are tariff-free.[5]

Context. The BBC reports that US producers have tariff-free access to only 3.5% of Canada's market and that over-quota levies run about 200% to nearly 300%, so the 409% figure does not match the published range.[6]

Context. A Reuters clip published 2026-11-02 quotes Trump saying US farmers paid 'as much as 400%' for milk products; this is the speaker's own assertion, not independent evidence, and is dated after the 2026-10-15 post.[2]
