What we found

Context. The 2023 Colorado removal case was brought by six Colorado voters against Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who was a defendant and took no position on the ballot question, per PolitiFact.[1]

Context. The Colorado Supreme Court's 4-3 ruling in December 2023 removed Trump from the primary ballot, and the case was later reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court, which reversed it in Trump v. Anderson.[3][4][5]

Context. Federal DOJ actions against Colorado (voter data demands and a lawsuit dismissed in 2026) are separate from the 2023 ballot-removal litigation and do not address federal involvement in it.[6][7][8]

Context. AP fact-checked a false claim about Colorado Supreme Court Justice Monica Márquez being arrested by the Marines for the ballot ruling; this is unrelated to any federal aid to the removal effort.[2]
