As of 2026-09-19, the SAVE America Act had not cleared the Senate: NPR reported on June 4, 2026 that it had officially failed in the Senate, and USA Today's September 11 update says it had not become law.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What we found

Supports. NPR (tier2) reported on June 4, 2026 that the SAVE America Act 'has officially failed in the Senate' after being voted on as an amendment to an immigration funding package.[2]

Supports. USA Today (September 11, 2026) states that the Senate has not approved the SAVE Act and that it therefore has not become law, with lawmakers expected to continue discussions.[4]

Supports. The Hill opinion piece reports that Senate cloture votes on March 26 (53 votes) and August 8 (52 votes) both fell short of the 60 needed to advance.[3]

Context. The House passed the expanded SAVE America Act 218–213 in February 2026, so the failure is specific to Senate passage and the bill did not fail in the House.[3][4]

Context. The claim is a casual extraction from 'so much the Save Act has failed'; it is best read as failure to pass the Senate and become law. Schumer's 'dead on arrival' statement is a prediction and does not contradict this.[1]
